Mountain Biking Tours and Lessons

Bicycle trails available for all abilities...Downhill Mountain BikingMountain bicycles, with fat tires and many gears, are great for touring around New Hampshire. Numerous backcountry trails (for technical biking like single track), logging roads and country roads (for easier touring) provide miles of scenic beauty, exercise, and a sense of history in this changing landscape. Let your guide bring a picnic lunch and provide mechanical support while you enjoy the fresh air of the northern forest. On a multi-day trip, your guide can provide camping equipment and meals so you can sleep under a very dark sky and see the Milky Way.  More about biking...

There's is also about eighteen miles of seacoast, plus Great Bay. Ask about adaptive canoeing for those with special needs.

Your guides are expert paddlers and patient teachers, and will help you build confidence in your skills. For paddle lessons and tours, you have a choice of several different types of canoes and kayaks, including whitewater canoes and sit-on-top kayaks. Two voyageur-style canoes (which seat 5-7 people each) are also available for special trips with a guide.

Continue the tradition of wilderness travel on the waters of New Hampshire. Multi-day river and lake expeditions are available and follow important historic routes. Imagine traveling by water during daylight, and then camping under dark, starry skies just as people did for thousands of years.

Kayaking Northern New Hampshire

On the water, you’ll hear, see, and feel things you wouldn’t from a highway: A loon’s haunting call, millions of lily pads with flowers and frogs, the exhilaration as you run a set of rapids, and hundreds of tree swallows swooping for insects at sunset...  More about paddling and lessons...

Winter Hiking and Snowshoeing

Animal Tracking in winter on snowshoesWinter Hiking in the White MountainsSnow provides us with evidence of wildlife. Many mammals in New Hampshire are active at night, such as the fox and snowshoe hare. With a good pair of snowshoes and some snow, you can walk and hike light-footedly in places you wouldn’t imagine during the summer months among the mud, rocks, and underbrush. Stopping for a breath, you'll experience the peace of snow and the beauty of the white landscapes.

Winter berriesBubbling Stream Under IceOrienteering on snowshoes after a fluffy snowstorm is more challenging at night. There are several types of shelters that can be built with snow and ice. Camping in the winter is possible with certain knowledge, the right equipment, and people who have a strong survival attitude. Take a multi-day trip with Outdoor ESCAPES NH for the challenge! Cross-Country Skiing

Cross Country SkiingCross-country and back-country skiing are great ways to travel under your own power in winter. The frozen snow provides miles of trekking to see views and signs of wildlife. In the past, Lucie has been a professional cross country ski instructor at Gunstock Recreation Area and The BALSAMS, and has the ability to get beginners skiing ups and downs, navigating corners, and using poles correctly, all in a day.

Click for awesome imageIf you wish, Lucie will provide you with all levels of instruction in various techniques, including the traditional diagonal stride, skating, and telemark turns. Imagine the power of climbing up a hill, seeing a view, and then the exhilaration of flying down the other side...although flatter areas can be just as fun and challenging for some. Wilderness safety, fun, and learning!

North Woods Survival

Learn to build a fire for survivalSurvival is as much about attitude as it is about skills. Your knowledge of how to use the resources at hand during a survival situation can save your life, or will at least save you from large search and rescue costs. If you enjoy spending time in the mountains of the northeast, learn how to prevent problems by going outdoors prepared, both mentally and with the right gear and equipment. Should you find yourself without modern equipment, knowledge of the environment and primitive skills, such as making fire, shelter building, and emergency signaling, will be an asset to your loved ones back home.
