Snowshoeing in New HampshireWe offer custom guided winter tours November/December through April/May.--see also: Hiking & X-C Skiing. Guided winter hikes are fun!
Hiking in winter is possible and we'll lead you on the best hikes in New Hampshire for this time of year. Snowshoes or ice grippers for your boots May be provided for trail walking below treeline. There are excellent trails for half-day treks for tots (we have a toddler backpack carrier to rent), day trips, and multi-day winter camping trips for those daring to try sleeping in a tent or lean-to. You can also opt to join Lucie for a day and stay at a cozy bed and breakfast at night where you can sit by a fireplace, enjoy a hot tub, and be pampered with a spa experience. Anything is possible.
On a guided winter hike you will find the weather is cool and crisp and sometimes it is snowing or raining, which you don't mind with proper clothing. When the ground is white, you'll notice everything else in detail...tree bark with green moss, birds, exposed granite rocks, ice flows and winter waterfalls. The best part is discovering the tracks and movement patterns of animals through the snow. Your guide will talk about the natural and cultural history of the area and there's always a chance of seeing wildlife.
As a rule, the longer your trip, the more you get out of it. You'll get better at organizing your backpack, see more wildlife, and increase your fitness level. If it's your first time winter backpacking, in any season, you may want to try an over-nighter (2 days and 1 night) to test your equipment and try it out.
