The pace of our half-day (2-3 hours) and full-day (5-8 hours) adventures may be relaxed to allow time for skills instruction and exploring nature, or it may be as intense as your party wishes in order to cover more miles.

Please keep in mind that flexible options during your booked date(s) are usually available to maximize your experience in New Hampshire with safety, fun, and learning in mind. There may be additional fees for further customization--anything is possible. Upon request, we may have some resources for those with special needs (all ages), such as adaptive sports equipment, accessible trails, transportation, and funding.

Cross Country Ski Lesson ~ Tour

Gliding across winter snow under your own power is great fun and exercise. Ski up, down, and around, in a winter wonderland to see signs of wildlife & maybe spot a moose!

• Lessons and tours for novice to expert on groomed trails as well as ungroomed backcountry trails Dec.-April.
• Games for kids, classic diagonal stride, and skate techniques through fields and forests in the valleys and hills of N.H.

Hiking, Walks, and Snowshoeing

New Hampshire has trails for all abilities during every season to experience fresh air, clear mountain streams (or frozen waterfalls), and scenic beauty.

Snowcoach for ages 5 to adult.

White Mountains: Presidential traverse.

Picnic lunch during a snowshoe hike.

Canoeing and Kayaking

New Hampshire’s numerous scenic rivers, lakes, and tidal areas provide paddlers with a variety of experiences for all abilities.

• Quiet water, swift water, and tidal water lessons and tours May-Oct.
• Includes: nature/history talks, full instruction on ponds and rivers as needed (lakes, ponds, rivers, tidal areas, and whitewater up to Class III), survival tips, wildlife spotting, animal tracking, and scenic views.

North Woods Survival and Backcountry Skills Course (1-3 days)

Get outdoor educated for a lifetime of adventures! Whether you hike, bike, ski, or paddle, these skills and knowledge can be a life saver!

Do you want to have fun outdoors, but worried you will become a statistic? Do you want to learn how to improvise using basic tools and whatever resources are at hand?

Our guides teach survival skills that will keep you safe while backpacking, hiking, trekking, canoeing/kayaking and other wilderness adventures you might embark on. This is a hands-on course and you will learn by doing. Students will be learning and practicing these skills with expert instruction throughout the day and are advised to work on perfecting these skills after completion of the course.

• Map and Compass, Navigation, Plotting a course, Route planning, Bushwacking, Triangulation 
• Knots and their uses
• Conventional shelter building
• Fire Building with various methods of fire starting including flint and steel

  Types of backcountry travel, choosing location and companions, your pack list (food, clothing, gear), how to pack your backpack/drybag, timing and "go or no-go" decisions, the "performance triangle," developing awareness of conditions to aid in decision-making, group dynamics & leadership/fellowship style, handling emergency situations, most common backcountry injuries/illnesses, using resources at hand, and knowing your limits.
• Wilderness Ethics and Low-Impact Practices.
• Outdoor Cooking using various methods.
• How to assemble a Bivy Kit to keep for future wilderness treks in case of unplanned extra time in the wilderness.​

Primitive Survival Skills: 1, 2, or 3 Day Intensives

Gain outdoor confidence in the western White Mountains by learning life-enriching survival skills that increase self-reliance in the back-country.

Jeff Barrie, a seasoned White Mountains hiker/camper of 35+ years, teaches primitive survival skills & more, having himself attended courses at Tom Brown the Tracker School.

• 1-, 2-, and 3-Day courses available April - October in Warren, New Hampshire.
  
• We welcome groups, families and individuals (max. 6 participants) for a private custom experience. 
  
• You must be physically fit and be willing to participate in learning these select skills.
• Experiential (hands-on) learning at High Meadow Farm is 20% classroom and 80% field. Topics are customized for your interests, and include: The Big 4--shelter, fire, water, and food, plus map and compass, "must know" knots, snares/traps, and animal tracking.
• All (organic) food is included during the 2-3 day courses--healthy, tasty, and filling. Please advise if you have any food allergies or preferences.
