Reasons Why We Should Get Into Nature...and Be Prepared with Skills, Knowledge, and Tools
The people of New Hampshire have worked hard to keep many acres of land wild and open to the public for recreational use. Some of these areas are preserves for wildlife and others are managed forests. Many people take advantage of outdoor recreational opportunities on conservation lands all year long. The fresh air beckons exercise, relaxation, and entertainment for those seeking either solace or companionship.
But every year we hear about injury, illness, and death as a result of not being prepared, poor decision-making, and unnecessary risk-taking. New Hampshire has rugged terrain and unpredictable weather in all of its beautiful regions, including the North Woods, White Mountains, valleys, lakes, rivers, and seacoast. We will teach you the skills and knowledge needed to help get yourself into nature and safely back home.
Planning ahead prevents problems and emergencies that could lead to damage of natural environments, injury, costly search-and-rescues, and unfortunate death. Taking a survival course with us allows you to become aware of the various conditions and hazards in the wilderness and leaves you with knowing which decisions you need to make and what actions to take to get you through a sticky situation.
Our mission is to educate outdoor enthusiasts to help them make the most out of their outdoor experiences–not to just survive a trip, but to go home and share the good news of the wild places you've found. Our backcountry skills lessons help prepare you for safe outdoor adventures using low-impact practices with an emphasis on preventing problems. Our survival skills lessons help you deal with a variety of situations that may arise in the backcountry. Through practical experiences, we will share with you the knowledge, skills, tools, and resources available to help you be prepared to handle emergencies.
